More than 25 years ago, my parents bought 4 monoblock chairs as they were starting their small family. Those pale green chairs not only served as our dining chairs—those were also witnesses to the best memories of our family. From birthdays, Christmas, New Year’s, and even ordinary yet memorable days when we’ll just gather around our small dining table and eat a simple meal together.
But while they are merely chairs, they also served as my playmates. I remember my older sister and I would flip it over and pretend that they are a slide. I was around 7 years old at that time, a period where I am tinier and can wrap myself around it as if it was my only friend.
Sometimes, I would also consider it as a horse and ride on it. It was a big part of my childhood days, and I have fond memories of playing with it.

Although there are a few chipped portions on its foot, it remains in good condition, it’s color still pristine. One day, I saw my niece playing around with one. She had just discovered that it could play as a mini slide, just like what I used to do when I was a child.
My sister (her mom) and I reminisced about how we used to play with the chair when we were kids. It was amazing to think that the chair has been a constant presence in our lives for generations—and now we are witnessing how they are being part of the generation next to us.
It reminded me of how time flies so fast. It was a brief yet lovely moment and seeing my niece playing around with it was just heartwarming.
